The Benefits of Land Surveying

From planning and constructing a new building to improving existing infrastructure, land surveying is important when owning or selling property and especially when building on it. Securing an accurate depiction of the property boundary and existing conditions ensures a building not only fits on the site but can be constructed.

For decades Watson Engineering Company, Inc. (Watson) has been a leader in land surveying. Our Survey Department provides a variety of services including boundary, easement, topography and ALTA surveys; flood elevation certificates; legal descriptions; property zone changes; parcel modifications; and, lot line adjustments. Our certified survey technicians also stake during construction which can include as-built, quantity, and control surveys as well as utility layout.

Watson land surveyors work both in the office and the field on a variety of projects ranging from residential and commercial to renewable energy construction. “No two days are ever the same,” notes Daryl Brown, Survey Department Manager.

Daryl explains one of the most common reasons a client requests Watson’s land surveying services is to determine the property boundary and where it physically exists on the ground. “If a client is buying raw ground it is important to not only identify and verify the amount of land being purchased, but also uncover incorrect bounding and miscalculations.”

Owners, developers, architects, and designers often turn to the Watson’s Survey Department to understand the rules and regulations for records of survey. Any time we establish a record of property corner, we file a record of survey plat with a county surveyor’s office so records can be perpetuated.

Using the latest technologies and tools for scanning sites and gathering reliable data improves accuracy and productivity but Daryl points out there is quite a bit of property research and calculations involved. “It’s our attention to detail that sets Watson apart,” he states. “We take great pride in our work and stand behind our accuracy.”
