SUU Pickleball Courts Survey

Pickleball is a ball game that is gaining in popularity with people of all ages. The courts used in pickleball are one-third the size of standard tennis courts and have a net that is two inches lower than those used for tennis.

Southern Utah University has responded to the demand for this fledgling sport and they now boast twelve indoor and six outdoor pickleball courts open to both the public and student body. Tournaments are hosted regularly and the Utah Summer Games were held in the courts at the Sorenson Physical Education Building.

Watson Engineering Company provided topographic surveys for SUU’s indoor and outdoor pickleball courts. We gathered survey control and performed topography surveys in order to give accurate projections for construction material costs for improvements to existing courts, as well as determine the physical features of each court.

Watson Engineering provided additional services which included geotechnical engineering, materials testing, and construction staking. Due to the rigid specifications of the sport it was a challenge for Watson Engineering to work with existing materials and space to alter them to meet regulations. These finished spaces are beautifully crafted; they are made from quality materials and constructed to endure constant use and extreme weather conditions.
