Meet the Team: Tim Watson

Watson Engineering Company’s culture of service, open communication, and hard work is no accident. President and Principal Tim Watson has been very deliberate in its design. He doesn’t take his leadership role lightly. “Managing a firm like Watson is more of a calling than a career. Our company provides a service to our clients, but it also serves our team. They can utilize what they achieve at Watson to better serve their families and community,” states Tim.

Providing exceptional service is the cornerstone of Watson’s culture. The firm’s value of ‘Have you eaten yet?’ serves as a reminder that it’s our clients that keep us in business and our employees with food on their table. “It’s important to me that we serve our clients to the best of our abilities. If Watson Engineering isn’t a good match, I have no problem referring clients to another firm that is,” says Tim.

Not your typical engineer, Tim’s favorite aspect of his work is building connections with clients and employees. Communication is essential in helping his team understand not just the processes, but also the “why” behind them. He encourages his employees to ask questions when they need clarification and ensures that when employees walk in the door, they feel safe to communicate openly about what they need to do their job well. “A great day for me,” reflects Tim, “is when I have the opportunity to really connect with a teammate and help them recognize their strengths.”

Never one to shy away from hard work, it’s important to Tim that potential employees share that value. “Sometimes my hiring process is a little slow, but I’d rather take the time to get know candidates and be sure they will fit well with our team,” says Tim. It’s not uncommon for an applicant to be interviewed three or four times in the process.
